Bathroom Dreams

Here I sit for the 2nd year in a row with a broken toe. Sigh... So what have I been doing instead of doing what I want to be doing? I've been dreaming of renovating my bathroom and collecting pictures of lovely spaces.  Now I do love my bathroom (except for that hideous orange tile), but it is a bit of a waste of space and the sliver of a window in there just does not do it for me.

Tips for a Carefree Road Trip #CanadianTire #QuakerState #CollectiveBias

Every year for the past 5 years, I’ve spent a week visiting my 92 year old mom who lives on the other side of the country. It’s the only chance we get to spend time together since my mom no longer travels. After 5 years of taking the same route, I’ve got my trip down to a fine art!

Puttering

It's almost the middle of August... I haven't spent much time doing anything of consequence.  I wound up having to have a lot of roofing replaced so my budget is gonzo.  I've been doing the jobs that I have materials on had for but they're yukky jobs so I've been putting them off - like laying new poly on the dirt floor in my crawl space (shudder!) and I have to get up in the attic to run new wires for ceiling fixtures (double shudder!).  This past weekend  I restrung my clothesline and then the smoke from all the wildfires began moving into our region. UGH. Not hanging anything outside when it's this smoky!!

DIY Shutter Door Cabinet

Here's my new no-cost laundry room storage cabinet.

I'm still in the process of purging my stash of lumber, doors, windows, etc. My old laundry room storage was created from a particle board shelf tower from a closet organizer that I had repurposed, but after having moved it a few times, it was beginning to fall apart at the seams.

I didn't want to spend any money on this project since my budget was hit hard this summer with all the roofing that needed to be replaced.

This project was going to kill several birds with the same stone!

Summer Project Update

Hello everyone! Here's what I've been up to so far this summer.

Izzy been BRUTAL to my poor cats. They can't even be in the yard without her pouncing on them.  Between that behaviour and the about-to-fall-down fence along one side of my yard, the quick and easy solution was to use up scrap materials to create a courtyard for the cats and a more secure yard for the dog.

I yanked the roof off my potting bench and repurposed it as an arbour.  This gave me a structure that I could attach railings to and a gate.  Easy peasy courtyard!

DIY Shaker Bench

I've been feeling the itch to build something lately.  I moved the furniture around in my bedroom and with the extra space I created, it was time to build a bench for the foot of my bed.

How to Make Mismatched Furniture Work Together

Decorating can be difficult when you don't have a large budget.  Where do you start? How do you make all those pieces you've collected along the way work together? Here's how I took a bunch of mismatched second-hand furniture and pulled the decor together to give myself a brand new, stylish dining room.

I began accumulating furniture for the dining room when I first moved in. The furniture I had already was minimal and not really my taste - without a huge budget, I took my time choosing the right pieces for the right prices by buying second hand furniture.

House Tour 2016 - Cottage Bungalow

I have made my little fixer-upper house into my perfect home!

When I bought this house, I was in a rough patch of my life. The house needed a lot of work, it was not what I wanted to live in but it was in my price range and in a great location. Six years later, this house has become my dream home. It is a very cozy and happy place for me and my pets. There is still a bit of tweaking to do - but isn't that always the case when you own a home??

It just goes to show that you can have your dreams come true, all you have to do is believe in yourself and it happens!

Enjoy the tour!

Lean-To Greenhouse from Old Doors and Windows

NEW GREENHOUSE
After 6 years of using my baby greenhouse that was built from 3 old storm windows, it became apparent this year that it just wasn't big enough for my needs anymore. The biggest issue I deal with is the late spring frosts and early fall frosts that we are prone to at an elevation of 3700 ft (1125 m). What I need is a place where I can keep 2 full grown tomato plants all summer long and not have to worry about them getting killed by frost.  This new greenhouse also gives me plenty of room to store my planters in the early spring to keep them from overnight temps that could kill them.

Living Room Before and After

Livingroom AFTER

Have you ever been kind of horrified at what your home decor used to look like? I was scrolling through old posts this morning and was blown away by how dark, dull and depressing my living room used to be!  Blogging has been a great way for me to find my style and pull things together in a much more pleasing way thanks to all my blog friends who inspire me daily.

Here's how my living room was transformed.

Enjoy my walk down memory lane.
